Why do I need to remove hair before a Lumea treatment?

Published on 2018-10-26

Removing hair from your skin before using Philips Lumea is very important. You can choose to shave, epilate or wax. Read below why this is necessary.

Removing hair from your skin before using Philips Lumea

IPL is successful on hair-free skin

For the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment to be successful the light from your Philips Lumea should reach the hair root. There it heats up the pigment (melanin) and stimulates the hair follicle to go into a resting phase. As a result, hair starts to shed naturally and further hair growth is restricted.

What happens if I don't remove hair before using my Philips Lumea?

If you use Lumea while you still have hair on your skin, the light from your Lumea may burn these. This can result in an unpleasant smell and damage your Lumea.

I don't have much hair left on my skin. Do I still need to remove them?

Pre-treatment (removing hair from your skin) is only necessary while you still have visible hair on your skin surface.
