Learn what you can do to keep your garments looking great

When it comes to clothing, we all want to do our best to take care of our items and make sure they last as long as possible. Over time, fabrics are exposed to all kinds of elements: Dirt, dust, sunlight — you name it. That’s why we’ve put together some helpful techniques to keep in mind when you’re cleaning, storing or wearing the garments you love most.

Keeping things clean

One thing to remember when using your iron is the importance of keeping it clean  to extend its efficiency and lifespan. Whether it’s the inside of the iron or the sole plate that needs cleaning, check your product’s warranty for easy descaling instructions.

Different fabrics, different approaches

Checking the care label to see the recommended fabric care is key, but it’s also helpful to keep in mind that different fabrics require different types of care. Making sure that you give all of your garments the right attention will guarantee longer-lasting, vibrant materials.

#1 Linen

Take linen, for example: It’s a natural fiber made from flax and it should never be washed at more than 60 degrees Celsius. Make sure that you hang it out to dry to avoid shrinking. When ironing, turn your garments inside-out and be generous with the steam button. A steam generator is ideal here because it provides powerful steam for longer periods of time, making it easier to remove those extra-tough creases.

#2 Cotton

Cotton is a pretty durable fiber that’s loved all around the world for being so comfortable and versatile. You can relax more when it comes to the washing, but make sure you read the label first to see if it’s cold-wash only. You can iron this fabric on a high heat while the item is still damp.

#3 Cashmere

Cashmere, on the other hand, is very delicate. Be careful when washing this fabric: Try using a diluted soap and drying by laying the item out on flat towels. When it comes time to de-wrinkle, do so with the help of a steamer. Our handheld steamers give you the perfect amount of steam right when you need it. Plus, their temperature settings guarantee no burns for your more delicate garments.

#4 Synthetics

Synthetic fabrics are man-made and super easy to keep in good shape. You can use regular detergent on them, and you can try a regular steam iron on them for fast and noticeable results. Nylon, one widely-used synthetic fabric, is famous for getting staticky. Prevent this by adding a little bit of fabric softener when you do your washing. Polyester is loved for being really durable and because it keeps its shape and rarely wrinkles. You can use an all-purpose detergent to machine wash it in warm water. Other popular synthetics include acetate, spandex and acrylic.
