What is the SMART USB Record function and does my Philips TV support it?

Published on 2016-12-29

SMART USB Record is a recording feature of the TV that allows:

  • Simultaneously recording and watching digital TV program. You can go back to watch the movie where you left off, while the rest of the program is continuously being recorded onto the USB memory device.

  • Scheduled digital TV program recording via the IP-EPG (Internet Program Guide). You can schedule the recording of one or several of the listed programs. You can also play back the content that is recorded on a USB storage device, but this is only possible on the TV that was used during the recording. We recommend the use of a HDD USB memory device as video recordings require a large amount of hard disk space.

If you purchased your TV before June 2011

You will need to upgrade your TV software in order to support SMART USB Record.

The SMART USB Record feature will be available from June 2011 onwards. After this date, you can log on to www.philips.com/support with your model number and download the TV software to your USB memory stick. Follow the instruction in the user manual or readme file of the firmware upgrade on how to upgrade your software.

Alternatively, if your TV is connected to your home network that is connected to the Internet, you can update your TV software directly from the Internet. Press the [Home] button > [Setup] > [Update software] and press the [OK] button. Select [Internet] and press the [OK] button. Follow the instructions onscreen to complete the software update.

To view the updated on-screen user manual, download and install the latest User Manual Upgrade software from the 'User manuals' section of the Philips support page. Follow the instructions in the Release Notes of the User Manual Upgrade on how to update the TV on-screen user manual.
