Improving the patient's imaging experience at Al Ma'na Private Hospital - Saudi Arabia

Bringing the latest imaging technology to Saudi Arabia

A smarter, patient-focused approach

Al Ma'na Private hospital is committed to providing excellent healthcare to the people of Saudi Arabia; the highest standards of care, the latest technology and the best possible patient experience.

A hospital visit, particularly to the imaging department, can be stressful for patients and this can have an impact not only on their experience, but on the results achieved and the treatment they received. Anxiety can reduce scan outcomes and possible delay a diagnosis and appropriate care. Patient stress can also impact workflow and be costly if rescans are required.

The MR world is also evolving at a rapid rate and it is a challenge for hospitals to stay ahead. Technology is moving towards higher performance, better image quality and consistency and faster imaging and processing.

Through a partnership with Philips, a simple, cost-effective upgrade system allowed Al Ma'na Private hospital to address these needs. It is technology which has been designed with the entire patient journey in mind.

Reduce noise, dynamic lighting and video projections all provide a holistic approach to comfort from start to finish. The upgrade also ensures the technology produces the most sophisticated, accurate digital images. Advanced imaging sequencing, coupled with a relaxed, compliant patient, allows for decreased scan times. This has allowed Al Ma'na Private hospital's imaging department to improve workflow and patient throughput, in a cost-effective way.

Customer's needs
Al Ma'na Private hospital is committed to providing the best healthcare solutions. How can patient experience and imaging outcomes be improved in an efficient way? And how clinicians make sure they get it right, every time?

Our solution
The Philips Smart Path offers an upgrade of existing analog imaging technology to the latest digital platform, in a practical, economic way, through a seamless patient-focused approach.

The results
MRI functionality was optimized, enchanced and improved to the latest standards with premium clinical software. Patient experience was prioritized, scan times were reduced and image quality improved.

Focusing on the patient, always
Patients visiting the imaging department are often in a vulnerable state; the procedure is daunting and the outcome unknown. Stress levels when within equipment often affect scan quality. This, in turn, impacts workflow and has cost implications.

Partnering with Philips to upgrade their existing imaging suite with the Smarth Path solutions has allowed Al Ma'na Private hospital to provide seamless patient care.

Upmost importance has been placed on providing a relaxed, comfortable environment. The Philips Ambient Experience-equipped suite encourages a calming experience, with soft lighting, sound and a soothing atmosphere, before, during and after a scan. Not only has this improved patient experience, higher quality images are produced due to reduced movement.

Sustainable healthcare Developing a sustainable healthcare model is key to moving the sector forward in Saudi Arabia. Provision of the most efficient and advanced imaging tools at Al Ma'na Private hospital allows professionals to make the most accurate diagnosis possible and make sure effective treatment is provided. In turn, this contributes to the overall improvement of the population's health.

Al Mana private hospital overview
"Within the MRI department, our patient's comfort is key to image quality. The Philips imaging system has allowed us to address stressful elements, giving my patients a more relaxed experience. This has reduced their overall scan time and we have seen a reduction in the number of repeat scans."

Through an upgrade from analog to digital imaging, advanced image sequencing now gives the patient a shortened exam time by allowing technicians to obtain two sequences simultaneously. Clinical set-up time has been reduced, along with the number of repetitive tasks required, allowing overall scan time to be decreased by as much as 30%. The upgrade also applies a motion correction technology, available across a range of anatomies. This has enabled routine exams to be performed in less than 8 minutes, whilst still providing excellent image quality.

Dr. Jehad Ibrahim; "New technologies must evolve with the patient in mind. As well as enhancing image outcomes, patient comfort and well-being must remain our focus. Smart Path has allowed us to do this. By addressing ways to make our patients more relaxed, we have seen a huge increase in their satisfaction and have been able to reduce scan times. Our patients are happier and our workflow is improved."

"Overall, the image results are really fantastic. Switching from analog to digital gives us much higher quality images, which supports greater accuracy and reporting. We can focus on making sure we get every image right, every time. We have seen a better work environment within our department - the benefits are clear for everyone."
