Philips and HMG to launch integrated solutions for sleep disorders

Philips and HMG partner up to sign a landmark agreement that aims to drive an integrated approach towards managing sleep disorders across HMG’s hospitals.

City, Country – Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Royal Philips ( NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, and Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group (HMG), the largest healthcare provider in the Middle East, recently signed a multi-year agreement to install Philips’ integrated program that manages and develops sleep diagnostic and therapeutic services across HMG hospitals.

The partnership between Philips and HMG aims at providing innovative solutions to manage sleep difficulties through an integrated diagnostic and therapeutic program that covers patients’ treatment journey. It further enables a thorough follow up procedure to ensure patients respond positively to the recommended treatment.

The agreement, a first of its kind in the region, will allow HMG to use Philips latest technologies to enable doctors in HMG’s hospitals to diagnose, treat and follow up with patients suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). In addition, Philips will provide logistics support across all HMG’s hospitals’ current sleep disorder treatment units, while also conduct training programs to the medical, technical and nursing staff by leveraging international best practices and research across this field.

Philips will support the installation of 10 Sleep diagnostic beds in five different HMG hospitals in Saudi Arabia that will serve at least 1000 patients in the first year.

Ozlem Fidanci, CEO MET said, “Successfully managing sleep disorders in today’s changing healthcare environment is more challenging and costly than ever. It has become increasingly important to make sleep diagnosing and treatment more efficient. Throughout the region, awareness levels around OSA are low. Through our partnership with HMG, we are helping address an unmet need while also recognizing the importance of sleep medicine and the need for a full sleep and respiratory program.”

The diagnosis process takes place at a state-of-the-art sleep lab, where patients are required to spend a full night under careful supervision using Philips’ latest diagnostic technologies, which assess the likelihood of patients potentially suffering from a sleep disorder.

After a full night of observation, if patients’ results indicate a sleep disorder, the healthcare practitioner will prescribe a medical device known as a “CPAP” that the patients would use.
